Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a condition that affects 1 in 3 people at some point of their life. Daily movements such as bending, pushing, pulling, and twisting can lead to a great deal of pain. These simple every day movements can easily cause patients to experience muscle spasms.

ART, or Myofascial Release, is designed to specifically treat muscles that are tight and have restrictions in one area of the body, but affect the entire body as a whole. When a patient experiences muscle restrictions, it causes uneven stresses in throughout the body and inefficient movement and gait patterns, in addition to the aches and pains that you feel.

So, what’s actually happening in our bodies? Our brains recognize posture, muscle tension, and movement patterns as being "normal." Over time, if left untreated, muscle restrictions begin to seem normal because of compensations that our bodies make; however, this is not necessarily as efficient or pain free as it should be. ART and Myofascial Release works to restore muscles and overall posture to its optimal state. This requires re-education of the muscles and nervous system to accept the new posture and muscle tension as better and less painful.

During the first phase of these treatments, your brain and body say, "This isn't me! This feels weird. I'm not going to do this," and the changes achieved in one treatment session do not last. However, as treatment progresses, your brain begins to recognize your new posture and decreased muscle tension as being more efficient and less painful. At this point, the changes achieved during treatment last longer. After a few treatments your body begins to function more efficiently and you will be left without unnecessary pain and tension in your body.
